Janning Trumann New York Quartet
‘When Janning Trumann was 15 years old, he went to see Nils Landgren in Hamburg and asked him for a trombone lesson. After five minutes, Nils realised that he was looking at a super talent. That was in 2005 and everything happened quickly after that. Janning studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne and New York University. Since then, he has achieved everything a young man can achieve and much more: the J.J. Johnson Award from the ITA (International Trombone Association) and, in the same year, the Music Promotion Prize from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. As a trombonist and composer, he can be heard worldwide with his own ensembles. He also curates his own jazz series in Cologne, initiated the global portal Jazz-Stadt Köln and is artistic director of Cologne Jazzweek. In 2024, Janning was honoured with the German Jazz Award.’

Shuteen Erdenebaatar Quartet
Roland Spiegel from BR-Klassik was immediately enraptured by their music: ‘Simply a dream. Music full of detailed beauty - and one that is like a quiet voyage of discovery. Always new moods and timbres. And worlds. If you don't know this band yet: It's worth discovering. Absolutely!’ Shuteen Erdenebaatar was born in 1998 in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar. She came to Munich at the age of 20 to study jazz piano and jazz composition. The quartet's first album Rising Sun was released in mid-September 2023, in which the quartet's charismatic interplay is particularly fascinating. ‘It helped me a lot that I knew everyone well. I already had it in my head who was playing which part when I was composing,’ says Shuteen. This was honoured with the German Jazz Award 2024.
