Start of JazzBaltica 2018!
This year Nils Landgren welcomes the audience of JazzBaltica for the first time in the center of Timmendorfer Strand. From the 22th until the 24th of June the festival takes place in the area around the Strandpark. JazzBaltica has never been closer to the sea before.
On Friday, 22th of June at 4.30 pm Nils Landgren arrives by ship at the pier. Accompanied by the Marching Band JMW Dirty Soul Jazztet he visits all stages of JazzBaltica and introduces them.
The concerts on the MainStage are sold out already. But all the other stages are for free and can be visited by everyone. They offer a colorful program of high quality: The stage @the beach is directly located at the Baltic Sea and presents a great line-up with musicians such as Ulf & Eric Wakenius. Nearby there’s the Rotunde of the Trinkkurhalle which will turn into the JazzCafé. In the JazzCafé the audience can listen to Jazz Talks as well as concerts. An OpenAir stage focuses on musicians of Schleswig-Holstein. The OpenAir-Stage and the Jazzcafé lie in the Strandpark and are surrounded by tall trees and lawns where you may enjoy picnics or a little walk. In the JazzClub, located in the 73Bar of the Maritim Seehotel, the artists get together in the late evenings for laid-back Jazz sessions. Already on Thursday, 21th of June, the Timmendorfer Platz turns into a stage as well: Nils Langren and the Big Band of the Ostseegymnasium invite everyone to a great »WarmUp«.
This year again JazzBaltica welcomes international Jazz Stars as well as great talents from the Baltic region. The audience can look forward to hear and see artists like Jan Garbarek, Lars Danielsson, Ulf Wakenius, Dieter Ilg, Wolfgang Haffner, Nils Wogram, Maria Baptist, Johannes Enders and Eva Kruse, as well as Candy Dulfer, Randy Brecker, Paolo Fresu, Bill Evans and Donny McCaslin.
Traditionally JazzBaltica also offers young talents to present theirselves. For example the Agnas Bros, four brothers from Sveden who already enjoy great reputation in Europe. On stage there will also be AOJO, a young orchestra from Norway that presents a mixture of african and scandinavian sounds (Saturday, 11am, OpenAir). Another guest of JazzBaltica is the Hendrika Entzian Quartett that defines the border between composition and improvisation in a new and exciting way (Saturday, 3pm, JazzCafé).
The winner of the IB.SH JazzAward 2018 is the Jazz guitarist, arranger and composer David Grabowski. The Award, which amounts to 3,000 Euros, is donated by the Investitionsbank Schleswig-Holstein (IB.SH). On Friday, 22th of June at 6pm, Erk Westermann-Lammers, chairman of IB.SH, hands over the Award to David Grabowski. The young artist is going to show his talents on Sunday, 24th of June at 12am at the JazzCafé.
