Marilyn Mazur’s Shamania

Four years ago, the "Queen of Danish Jazz" put together an impressive Scandinavian super ensemble for a special concert at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Mazur called and a host of top-class artists from jazz, dance, singing and choreography followed her. Mazur wanted to revive the visions of her earlier music and theatre project "Primi Band", with which she had caused a sensation in the early 80s. The focus is on the ritual, organically acting, but always wildly growing women's community and its expression of the primordial, the "original me" in rhythm, energy and movement. Marilyn Mazur initiates interaction processes within a band through her sensitive rhythm work. In the groups of Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Gil Evans and Jan Garbarek this was just as important as now in Shamania. A special highlight of the show is Tine Erica Aspaas' expressive improvisational dance, which adds depth to the entire performance. A rousing world jazz project.

"I first saw and heard Marilyn with Miles Davis. It was enchanting and I know it will be like that with Shamania again". [Nils]

Nils Wülker

Germany has strong trumpet voices in jazz. Till Brönner leads the way, but Frederik Köster, Ingolf Burkhardt, Thomas Siffling, Matthias Schriefl and Nils Wülker are Brönners right on their heels. Nils Wülker is no stranger to JazzBaltica, among other things he arranged and conducted the JazzBaltica Ensemble in 2011. In 2018 Nils Wülker released his tenth CD, after nine studio recordings "Decade" was recorded live. The trumpeter is not only an expressive instrumentalist, but also a songwriter who has a knack for strong melodies. Another pound is his powerful band that stands on stage with him. Sweaty drum rhythms, Arne Jansen's versatile electric guitar sounds, keyboard sounds and grooving bass lines create a special atmosphere from which Wülker's trumpet sound rises. The review of Wülker's 13 career years cannot always be clearly categorized stylistically. Sometimes his music is clearly recognizable as jazz, sometimes more hip-hop oriented. But one thing always remains the same: Nils Wülker's high quality standards are always reflected in his music.

"Trumpeter and mountaineer - a combination of heaven!" [Nils over Nils]
