Lisbeth Quartett

The Lisbeth Quartet of saxophonist Charlotte Greve made its first guest appearance on the Baltic Sea in 2014. The musician and her quartet had already won the IB.SH JazzAward in 2010. The Berlin musician and composer is now based in New York and operates with her award-winning Lisbeth Quartet from both sides of the Atlantic. The quartet has recorded four albums, and the focus is always on the very personal saxophone sound of Charlotte Greve. Their alto saxophone sound is both emphatic and elegiac. For their latest recording "There Is Only Make", which won an ECHO Jazz award, the band focused on qualities such as interplay and interplay that they have cultivated over the ten years of their existence. The recorded pieces had been in the band's concert program for a long time, so that details and depth could be honed. The Lisbeth Quartet alternates clear melody lines in a classical band constellation with passages in which the formation breathes and makes music like a single organism.
"Together with her band Charlotte paints pictures. Images of beauty, clarity and integrity". [Nils]

Mathias Eick Quintet

Years ago, Mathias Eick was still a "Rising Star" among the Nordic jazz musicians, but with his airy, overtone-rich trumpet sound and his bitter-melodious compositions he has long since opened up a wide circle of fans. The same goes for JazzBaltica. He will travel to his fourth guest appearance at the festival with his current ECM album "Ravensburg". Again Eick proves to be a great lyricist and master in designing atmospheric spaces. His music develops a rhythmic tension and emotional pull that no one can escape. His incredibly tightly acting, top-class band creates a flow that takes the listener with subtly increasing rhythmic patterns, gripping piano runs and virtuoso violin. Eick's airy timbre floats above it and congenially combines with the joy of playing and the precision of his partners to create a refreshing, beat-packed jazz whose sound structures always convey the typical Scandinavian idiom. Truly soulful music.
"A sound as clear as a fjord stream, as lyrical as Ibsen and as rhythmic as a fishing boat! [Nils]
